Kogi Taco Truck is a beautiful thing. I am from LA, and I am damn proud of my city's Mexican and Korean culinary offerings. From endless taco trucks (the cultural pillar of Los Angeles) to K Town's finest barbeque joints, we in LA have an abundance of ethnic culinary treasures for which to thank our lucky stars. Now, some people take things that are glorious in their own right, and combine them, and the synergy of merged brilliance creates a symbiotic relationship of mouthwatering deliciousness. I didn't make this up, its science. The people at KOGI are putting kimchi on quesadillas, and filling tacos with korean short ribs. Combining two of LA's most treasured cuisines is genius, pure genius.
The Kogi team discloses their location on Twitter @KOGIBBQ. They hit up fun joints like The Brig in Venice, 4100 Bar in Silverlake, and the über-hip Best Buy on Pico in West LA. Be prepared to line up with the rest of them, meet some taco/korean bbq lovin Los Angelinos, their out of town guests, their children, and their pets.
One short rib taco and one spicy pork taco. The short rib taco, while delicious, was nothing to write home about. Kind of made me just want a taco al pastor. But the SPICY PORK TACO...jeeeesus is that another story. Spicy, and tangy, and rich, and flavorful. The green onion-cabbage slaw, cilantro, and lime really take the tacos over the top.
